MediaCityUK and Fiction Film Production

MediaCityUK March 2011

MediaCity UK

If you're living around Manchester or work in the Media industry, you probably already heard of the MediaCityUK. For those who haven't, it is the biggest HD studio developments in Europe. Situated on Salford Quays and inspired by media clusters in cities like Dubai and Singapour, MediaCityUK was designed to become a digital hub and provide an infrastructure for a creative community where collaborative relationships would be encouraged.

My studies

I moved to UK 3 years ago to start a Digital Media & Communications degree in Manchester where I studied a wide variety of subjects related to the Media industry. However, I soon realised my passion resided in filmmaking and that I needed to focus on developing my skills in this domain... and start networking!

In January 2011 I started my researches and I discover not only that Salford University was offering a Fiction Film Production program but also that this postgraduate degree will be relocated on the MediaCityUK starting in September 2011. Well, that's killing two birds with one stone! In March 2011 I submitted my application online and  3 or 4 weeks later I had an Interview with the admission team. A week ago I received my decision letter offering me a place in the above program!

What does it mean for me? for you?

It means I will be part of the first ones to experience this digital hub for innovation and content creation where boundaries between medias are blurring. Pretty exciting! But what about you? Well I decided I will blog my personal experience throughout my year at MediaCity, hoping to provide other creative minds an inside look at Salford University program on site and of course at the MediaCityUK itself!
